Lenzie Station

Streetscape solution for ‘road and rail’ upgrade - Extensive hard landscaping improvements have been carried out at East Dunbartonshire's Lenzie Railway Station and the surrounding area using Parex Streetscape products compliant with BS7533.

Parex materials were used for the bedding, bonding and jointing of almost 1,500 square metres of high quality natural paving  materials at the scheme delivered by East Dunbartonshire Council.

The project encompassed the rail station itself and the adjoining Kirkintilloch Road, featuring a combination of natural Caithness paving in a range of sizes from 305mm to 725mm along with 95mm granite cubes, 145 x 305 x 150mm deep granite setts and approximately 73 square metres of granite tactile textured paving units.

Almost 4,500 bags of high strength Parex Fine Bedding Concrete were used to provide a firm 40mm foundation throughout the scheme with Parex BondPlus mortar used to coat the various elements prior to laying. This helped to provide a high strength bond between the natural stone units, bonding them to the FBC substrate prior to final jointing.

Nominal 10mm joints were used throughout, with the final jointing carried out using Parex Granatech in natural which
was applied as a slurry before removal of any excess material and cleaning down.

Main contractor for the project was RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd, of London Road, Glasgow, with Capita appointed as project manager for the works - supported by engineering consultancy Sweco as the principal designer.

The work was carried out as part of the council’s overall Lenzie Station Improvement Project which also included improved pedestrian crossings, upgraded lighting and road markings, enhanced street furniture and landscaping including flower beds and seating and improved cycle facilities.

Proposals to improve the public space around the railway station and adjacent shops were developed following engagement undertaken by the Council and Sustrans Scotland’s Street Design team.
