St Luke’s Hospital, Market Harborough, Leicester

A PAREXTHERM External Wall Insulation (EWI) system has been installed to contribute to energy-efficiency and comfort levels at a new £7.5 million healthcare facility in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

Commissioned by East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group, St Luke’s Treatment Centre brings together healthcare services operated by the NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Alliance, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Market Harborough and Bosworth Partnership and was built by Morgan Sindall.

The building comprises a structural steel frame with Siniat GTEC Weather Defence board, providing the substrate for the PAREXTHERM Acrylic render system which features in a series of panels at the main entrance and around the windows on all sections of the façade. The Parex EWI system was specified due to it combining high insulation levels at the same time as achieving cost savings.

The PAREXTHERM system is composed of a graphite EPS 70E insulation layer, bonded in place using Parex Maite as an adhesive, followed by a Maite base coat layer over the insulation incorporating Parex 355 AVU mesh embedded into the Maite to provide a reinforcement layer prior to the application of the top coat finish.

Leicester-based specialist rendering sub-contractor Allan Atlas Render Systems then applied Parex DPR Primer followed by the top coat finish of Parex DPR Sand Coarse acrylic render in Marble White.

During construction Parex Weathertech Weatherseal was applied as a flexible sealant to all window and door openings to provide added protection from the elements and following completion of the rendered facades, the addition of a Paraguard protective coating was applied as a further defence against the weather and environmental elements.

Following completion of the new treatment centre a number of local medical services have been re-located under one roof including a minor injuries unit, a branch surgery of the local medical centre and out-patient services including a new X-ray suite, podiatry and physiotherapy facilities.

The new state-of-the-art facility is a result of a partnership between East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group, NHS Property Services, NHS England and NHS healthcare providers.
