Oscar on the mend with PAREX
An SOS to help restore the famous scribe’s statue in Dublin was received after Oscar literally lost his head due to weathering and wear and tear. His hands were also replaced at the same time.
Our distributor in the Republic, Construction Chemicals Limited, had no hesitation in recommending Tecgrip CAS Cartridge and Thixotropic joint filler to restore the bond between the statue’s body and its missing parts.
The statue, which was commissioned during the 1990’s by the Guinness company and is situated in Merrion Square, across the road from the “Dail” - the Irish Parliament – was given a new head and hands after suffering from the rigours of the weather and had begun to crack.
The original sculptor Danny Osbourne returned to replace the items, originally in porcelain, by new ones replicated in jade, which is a much harder material. These were bonded back using the high strength materials, which were used on the original in 1997 and had stood the test of time.
The statue was carved from various types of stones including Thulite, Jade and granite, acquired from countries all over the world. The artist has stated his satisfaction with the performance products from Parex UK.
