Taylor Wimpey, Sherford
Traditional mineral renders and profiles from Parex are contributing to the classical appeal of new homes at a “new community” development near Plymouth, Devon.
Taylor Wimpey is one of several homebuilders engaged in the construction of new homes at Sherford which aims to create a new community for the 21st Century based on a projected, 500 homes together with all the services and facilities the residents require.
A range of home styles echoing an Edwardian look make up the Taylor Wimpey development where a variety of through coloured mineral renders from the Parex Monorex range have been applied by specialist contractor Rendex Ltd (Bristol).
The homes of traditional blockwork feature a combination of rendered and brick built facades.
Parex render was specified by the project architect Dunn Marino Associates, of Exeter. The render in Brilliant White (BL10) and Natural White (G00) was spray applied with Parex TV10 reinforcing mesh embedded to provide added strength at vulnerable stress points such as door and window openings and was finished with a scraped textured appearance.
A key feature of the homes is provided by a full range of Parex profiles, which give the classical appeal to the variety of facades featured throughout the development. These include parapet copings and a parapet closing solution that both seals the cavity and provides the required decorative element.
Parex profiles also feature extensively for cornice and string courses, window cills, door and window surrounds, door canopies and garden wall cappings, with architecturally detailed intricate pilasters and columns featured on selected properties.
The profiles are relatively light in weight due to their fire retardant EPS core and are supplied to site ready-to-install with a coating of Parex Maite which gives a natural and robust appearance ready to receive the decorative Parex coating to complement the main render finishes.
In addition to providing affordable new homes, the Sherford development will also incorporate four new schools and community facilities including a leisure centre, town hall, library and extensive community park.
